Quick trip summary: Riding in three different countries, epic riding on Honda 250 dirt bikes, tracking Gorillas in the wild, Safari Ride in jeeps and ending the motorcycle trip with a hot air balloon ride in the most famous national park renowned for its wildlife!
DAY 1: ARRIVAL- KIGALI (RWANDA)
Welcome to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. You'll receive an airport transfer and be taken to your hotel. Nestled among hills, Kigali stands out for its cleanliness and order. In recent years, the city has evolved into a modern metropolis, renowned for its green boulevards, friendly people, and a thriving economy. It's also a significant cultural hub with museums, markets, and various events.
DAY 2: KIGALI –LAKE BUNYONI – (UGANDA 164 KM)
We cross the inland in a southern direction, approaching the tri border area of Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Here, we turn west and continue our route on varied roads, both paved and unpaved, towards Kabale. The day's stage of our motorcycle tour concludes at the picturesque Lake Bunyonyi, where we enjoy the stunning backdrop of green hills and small islands. Lake Bunyonyi, also known as the "Place of Many Little Birds," is one of the deepest lakes in Africa.
DAY 3: LAKE BUNYONI – RUHIJA (BWINDI FOREST) (UGANDA 170KM)
Driving into Uganda's highlands involves traversing some challenging terrain. Be prepared for a beautiful but demanding day. Majestic mountain ranges shrouded in mist come into view, alternating with tea plantations—a stunning part of Uganda. Ruhija is a small village housing the Bwindi research center. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park boasts immense biodiversity, with a particular emphasis on its mountain gorillas.
DAY 4: RUIJA –BWINDI OPTIONAL GORILLA
TRACKING (UGANDA)
Today, you have the option to embark on a gorilla visit. The necessary permits have been organized by us before the journey, as only eight individuals per day are allowed to visit each of the three tracked gorilla families. You can spend a maximum of one hour with a family, and each gorilla family sleeps in a different location every night. Early in the morning, trackers are dispatched to locate the family. You, along with a group of eight visitors led by a guide and some rangers, will then be guided through the dense jungle to the gorillas using GPS coordinates. The duration of the trek depends on the gorillas’ current location, but the fascinating hour spent with the gorillas is undoubtedly worth the trek.
DAY 5: RUHIJA –BWINDI - KAZINGA CHANNEL (UGANDA 161 KM) Unpaved roads lead us across mountain ranges to the hilly landscape along Lake Edward, marking the beginning of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha Park, is famous for its tree-climbing lions. A long unpaved road traverses the park, and as we drive along it, we are sure to encounter wild animals. We spend the night at the Kazinga Channel. The Kazinga Channel is an impressive waterway, a natural link between Lake Edward and Lake George, providing a stunning backdrop for wildlife observations. During a boat ride on the Kazinga Channel, we have the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and elephants. In this day in the evening, we will do a boat ride.
DAY 6: KAZINGA CHANNEL – MTUKULA (270)
Today brings another thrilling day of riding through Uganda's rural areas. Groups of women in colorful dresses carry heavy loads on their heads through the fields. Near Mbarara, green hills and plains dominate the landscape, characterized by agricultural fields. The region is renowned for livestock farming, and expansive pastures with grazing cattle are a common sight we will then sleep near the Uganda -Tanzania border.
DAY 7: MTUKULA– CHATO (TANZANIA 280 KM)
In the morning, we cross the border via Mutukula border and we cross the inland in a southern direction, we turn and continue our route on varied roads, both paved and unpaved, along Lake Victoria. The day's stage of our motorcycle tour concludes at the picturesque Lake Victoria, where we enjoy the stunning backdrop of green hills and small islands. Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes. With a surface area of approximately 59,947 km2(23,146 sq mi), Lake Victoria is Africa's largest lake by area, the world's largest tropical lake, and the world's second largest fresh water lake by surface area. As you approach Chato, the landscape becomes more rugged, with scenic hills and valleys. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as this area is home to various bird species and occasionally, larger animals like monkeys. Chato itself is known for its rich history and significance as the birthplace of former President John Magufuli. Don’t miss the chance to visit local landmarks and enjoy the warm atmosphere of this growing town. The ride is not just about the destination but also about the stunning scenery and cultural experiences along the way, making it a memorable adventure.
DAY 8: CHATO - MWANZA – (TANZANIA- 281 KM)
Start your adventure in Chato, a town known for its welcoming atmosphere. As you head towards Mwanza, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. There are several viewpoints along the way where you can stop and soak in the scenery. The lake is not just beautiful; it's also vital for the local economy, offering fishing opportunities and transport routes. The route features fascinating geological formations, particularly near the Geita area. The striking
rock outcrops and hills provide excellent photo opportunities and are a testament to the region’s unique geological history. Take time to stop and appreciate these natural sculptures. Consider taking a short boat ride if time allows, to experience the lake up close.
DAY 9: MWANZA – NDABAKA GATE (TANZANIA 230KM)
Riding from Mwanza to Ndabaka Gate offers a captivating journey through Tanzania’s stunning landscapes. As you depart Mwanza, the scenic shores of Lake Victoria greet you, with its shimmering waters and vibrant fishing boats dotting the horizon. The route meanders through lush green hills and small villages, providing a glimpse into the local life and culture. As you ride, keep an eye out for the iconic rock formations that are characteristic of the Mwanza region, such as the famous Bismarck Rock. The road will take you through agricultural areas where you can see farmers tending to their crops, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of traditional markets bustling with activity. As you approach Ndabaka Gate, the entrance to the Serengeti National Park, the landscape transforms into vast savannahs teeming with wildlife. Look for herds of wildebeest, zebras, and various bird species along the way. The excitement builds as you near the gate, where you can prepare for an adventure into one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife destinations. This ride is not just a journey; it’s an experience filled with natural beauty and cultural richness. We say goodbye to our motorcycles.
DAY 10: NDABAKA GATE – START SAFARI SERENGETI NP (4 X 4 JEEP SAFARI) Today, you have the opportunity to embark on a safari in Serengeti National Park to explore the richness of this conservation area in terms of nature and wildlife. Lions, rhinos, elephants, and numerous bird species can be found here. Successful anti-poaching measures have led to the reintroduction of various animal species, making it an impressive success in wildlife conservation. Let’s go for the big five!
DAY 11: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK GAME DRIVE & BALOONING Morning: 5:00 AM: Rise early for a hot cup of coffee or tea before your adventure begins. 5:30 AM: Head to the launch site for a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti. As the sun rises, enjoy panoramic views of the savannah, spotting wildlife below. The experience lasts about an hour, offering a unique perspective on the park’s vast landscapes.
Breakfast: 7:30 AM: After landing, indulge in a delightful bush breakfast prepared by your crew, complete with fresh fruits, pastries, and sparkling wine, amidst the stunning scenery. Mid-Morning: 9:00 AM: Begin your game drive in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Explore the Serengeti’s diverse ecosystems, from open plains to wooded
areas. Keep an eye out for the Big Five: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos. Afternoon: 12:30 PM: Enjoy a packed lunch at a scenic picnic spot while observing wildlife nearby.1:30 PM: Continue your game drive, visiting key areas known for animal activity. Evening: 5:30 PM: Return to your lodge or camp, reflecting on an unforgettable day in the Serengeti.
DAY 12: SERENGETI– ARUSHA VIA NGORONGORO NATIONAL PARK GATE
Traveling from Central Serengeti to Arusha offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania. As you depart from the Serengeti, the first highlight is the expansive savannahs, where you can spot large herds of wildebeest and zebras, especially during migration season. Keep your camera ready for encounters with elephants and giraffes against the backdrop of acacia trees. As you journey south, you’ll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, the stunning Ngorongoro Crater comes into view, a massive volcanic caldera teeming with wildlife. If time permits, consider a brief detour to explore its rich biodiversity, including lions, rhinos, and countless bird species. The route also takes you through charming Maasai villages, where you can observe traditional lifestyles and vibrant culture. The stunning landscapes transition from open grasslands to lush highlands, offering breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the surrounding hills. As you approach Arusha, the scenery becomes more urban, but you can still enjoy views of coffee plantations and the vibrant local markets. This journey encapsulates the essence of Tanzania’s natural beauty and cultural richness, making it an unforgettable experience.
DAY 13: ARUSHA– DEPARTURE
Depending on your flight schedule, there may be an opportunity to spend a few hours in town before being timely transported to the international airport Kilimanjaro.
Local circumstances could require adjustment of the route on site.
